The future is coming

If there is one thing the Americans have done at the last worlds is given the moth world a huge shake up with their execution of a highly polished event.

This movement appears to have started last year when I just joined the class with the advent of the Bladerider.Since then, in the space of just a year, Amac has launched the Mach2 with devastating effect on the racetrack.

The International moth class is on the verge of another push forward with the introduction of so many world class sailors and it is only a matter of time before the “formula 1 on water” concept becomes a reality.

Off the back of that there is huge potential to really establish the class right down to grass roots at local clubs. It really helps that the boats have become easier to sail and the fact that Bora at 82 kilos was able to win in all manner of winds (heavy and light) means that the rules about being lighter have been re written.

There are now five established Moth builders each creating potential race winners in their designs and no doubt 2010 will unveil others which is also an encouraging sign.

On the blog front, I’ve decided to get organised and utilise the next generation of blogging with the new interface that better manages content and is far more advanced than the previous generation and will hopefully encourage potential mothies in to the class from all levels.

Those that have followed my ramblings over the last year will have figured out by now that I am slightly obsessed with the moth and with that in mind, I can’t wait to see where the class goes from here.

The future is bright and like all good moths, we are drawn to the light..
