Today I fitted the nosecone and thus finished the hull build. From here on in it is all small jobs that I have done at some point or another on Supermistress. With the nosecone fitted, both tanks are now sealed up for good. I did a very odd thing…. I hoovered out the front tank (as I did with the aft tank) as I didn’t want to be distracted when sailing in years to come with the idea of some bit of debris rattling around! I guess when you build it yourself and know every inch of the boat, these things spring to mind.
I fitted the u-bolt which will carry the kicker and did a quick spot check, the cockpit wall is made up of 14 layers of 200 gm biax and came in around 6mm thick so hopefully that u-bolt is going nowhere!
The control rod tube has a new mod thanks to Mike and feedback from Doug Pybus.. The front 10 cm is a wider bore tube to take an m5 stainless steel bar which will be threaded on to the 3mm pushrod. This is to make it a more robust system and stop the rod wanting to bend outside of the hull.
I’ve got the compression bars and tramps now from Mike so I’ve reattached the wing bars to fit the tramps and set the compression struts which I’ll do tomorrow.
I’ve fitted a tasty new gadget which I’ll reveal soon. It’s nothing groundbreaking, I’ve borrowed some technology from windsurfing which is a nice compact alternative to an existing system.
Another thing I’ve borrowed from another watersport will be revealed and let’s just say I’d be surprised if most if not all of the masters adapt this system as it’s the closest thing to armchair mothing out there!
