I spent a full day on the control system as this is the main area that makes a well behaved boat versus a pig to sail. The system I’ve been working on now has fully adjustable gearing on the wand block which means that a quick capsize and you can reset the gearing within seconds. This system can be retro fitted on pretty much any moth with a wand block.
The vertical pin is an m3 threaded rod with a bolt on the end that goes through an m5 allen key bolt. This allows the rocker arm to move freely up and down (nearer or further away from the axle/ pivot)
The wand is also retractable and has a carbon tube that holds the 8mm carbon wand. Based on Kevin Ellway’s calculations we are allowing for a retraction of 360 mm which should drop the boat plenty!
The axle is a cut down m8 bolt that I drilled and tapped to allow an m5 allen key head bolt to go through the wand block. This allows for the possibility of addind a sheave for the wand retraction control line that will sit on the unthreaded section of the m8 shank.
The Bellcrank is also done now and I did a U-turn on fitting threaded barrels to the ends after a conversation with Mike Cooke about potential breakages with that system. However, the Acetyl block and shackle pin configuration also allows for adjustment to the gearing if required.
On downloading the pics from the camera I found this tagged on the end…. Clearly an intruder… If you see this man, consider him dangerous as he has learning difficulties and he is strong.
Launching is planned in the next couple of weeks! A trip to Bristol will hopefully see the first outing at Axbridge under the watchful eye of head Ninja Mike.
